The Difference Between Negative Rights and Positive

The Relationship Between Homework Compliance and Therapy Outcomes: An Updated Meta-Analysis. The current study was an updated meta-analysis of manuscripts since the year 2000 examining the effects of negative rights, homework compliance on treatment outcome. A total of 23 studies encompassing 2,183 subjects were included. Results indicated a significant relationship between homework compliance and jung theory treatment outcome suggesting a small to medium effect ( r = .26; 95% CI = .19.33). Negative Rights! Moderator analyses were conducted to determine the in differential effect size of homework on treatment outcome by negative target symptoms (e.g., depression; anxiety), source of homework rating (e.g., client; therapist), timing of homework rating (e.g., retroactive vs. War Resulted In! contemporaneous), and type of homework rating (e.g., Likert; total homeworks completed). Results indicated that effect sizes were robust across target symptoms, but differed by source of negative rights, homework rating, timing of the peloponnesian in, homework rating, and type of homework rating.

Specifically, studies utilizing combined client and therapist ratings of compliance had significantly higher mean effect size relative to those using therapist only negative rights assessments and those using objective assessments. Further, studies that rated the percentage of homeworks completed had a significantly lower mean effect size compared to studies using Likert ratings, and retroactive assessments had higher effect size than contemporaneous assessments. Cognitive and behavior therapies are often considered first-line treatments for Upheaval a number of negative vs positive, psychiatric disorders, with various meta-analyses demonstrating the down efficacy of these therapies for conditions such as anxiety disorders (Hofmann and Smits 2008 ; Otto et al. 2004 ), depression (Dobson 1989 ; Spek et al. 2007 ), and substance-use disorders (Duttra et al. 2008 ). While cognitive and behavior therapies have been established on theoretical foundations, the efficacy of these interventions may lie in their strong history of utilizing homework assignments as a mechanism toward producing beneficial treatment outcomes. That is, practice of negative, skills outside of amaterasu human, therapy (i.e., homework) allows clients to master the skills believed necessary to affect symptoms, generalize these skills to their natural settings, and promote prolonged symptom improvement through extending therapeutic aspects of treatment beyond the completion of therapy (Kazantzis and vs positive rights Lampropoulos 2002 ). Indeed, the importance of homework for producing positive therapy outcome was demonstrated in wal mart, a previous meta-analysis (Kazantzis et al. 2000 ). In their analysis, a Pearson r effect size of .22 was reported for vs positive rights the relationship between homework compliance and therapy outcome in a sample of 1,327 subjects across 27 studies.

These results suggest that greater compliance with homework is wal mart, associated with beneficial treatment outcome, with the strength of the association falling between Cohens small and vs positive rights medium effect size cutoffs (Cohen 1988 ; Kraemer et al. 2003 ). Kazantzis et al. ( 2000 ) analysis was the first study to in, examine the type of rights, homework activity and the nature of the clients presenting problem as moderating variables of homework effectiveness. The presenting problems were categorized as depression, anxiety-related disorders, and wal mart other outpatient. The results of this meta-analysis showed the following mean effect sizes for problem type: depression (.22), anxiety (.24), and other outpatient (.17), with homework effects being significantly greater for the treatment of depression than the other outpatient sample. Additionally, results indicated that effect sizes were robust across the type of homework completed (no single type, relaxation, or social skills) and time of homework compliance assessment (regular intervals or posttreatment), but differed by the source of homework compliance assessment. Specifically, studies that utilized client and therapist ratings had a significantly lower mean effect size relative to those using objective measures of homework compliance.

In the 8 years since Kazantzis, Deane, and Ronans meta-analysis on the effects of homework assignments on treatment outcome, homework has continued to remain both a traditional and integral component of contemporary manual-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approaches (Coon and Thompson 2003 , p. 53). Further, there continues to be support for the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral interventions to prevent the onset, relapse, and negative recurrence of a number of psychological disorders (Hollon 2003 ). The meta-analysis conducted by Kazantzis et al. ( 2000 ) included homework-related studies spanning from 1980, 1 year following Becks emphasis on regularly using homework in Essay The Great, cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression (Beck et al. 1979 ), through 1998, a time when homework in therapy had been incorporated into negative rights, a more diverse range of clinical conditions (Kazantzis et al. Wal Mart Stakeholders! 2000 ). Therefore, a significant amount of variance as a function of time may exist within this analysis. The present study is an updated meta-analysis of the relationship between homework compliance and treatment outcome. We hypothesized that greater homework compliance would be significantly associated with improved treatment outcome. Given that the previous meta-analysis found some evidence that targeted symptoms and source of homework ratings may moderate the effect of homework compliance, we further examined whether treatment target (e.g., symptoms of negative rights, anxiety, depression, etc.) and source of rating (e.g., therapist, objective) moderated the relationship between homework compliance and jung theory therapy outcome. A novel aspect of this meta-analysis is that we examine the moderating effect of rating type (e.g., Likert rating, percentage of homeworks completed). To identify candidate studies for negative vs positive inclusion in our review, the following inclusion/exclusion criteria were used: (a) studies must have been published between January, 2000 and September, 2008, (b) the study must have been published in English, and (c) the study must have been a treatment study examining pre- and post-treatment outcome and measured some aspect of homework compliance. Guided by these criteria, we searched PsychArticles, PsychInfo, and when did alcatraz shut down Medline databases for journal manuscripts published between January 2000 and September 2008 using the key terms homework and compliance and (therapy or psychotherapy or psychosocial intervention or intervention). Negative Rights! From this search 87 articles were found.

We read the abstracts from these articles to identify potential studies for inclusion as well as manuscript citations to the peloponnesian, identify further manuscripts that may have initially been missed in negative vs positive rights, our initial search. Articles that were eliminated dealt with methods for improving homework compliance rather than the the peloponnesian in impact of homework compliance on treatment outcome. Negative! Additionally, articles that were book chapters or dissertations were excluded. Twenty-three studies encompassing 2,183 subjects met the inclusion criteria for the meta-analysis and Essay were therefore included in the present study. Classification and Coding Systems. Primary treatment target these included 5 categories: (a) depression, (b) anxiety, (c) substance use, (d) mixed (e.g., both anxiety and depression), and (e) other (e.g., functioning); Source of homework rating Four categories were included in this rating: (a) therapist (Likert rating), (b) client (Likert rating), (c) objective (e.g., number of rights, assignments turned in), and when did alcatraz down (d) client and therapist (e.g., both client and therapist rated homework compliance and average ratings were used). Type of negative vs positive rights, homework rating Three categories of homework rating were coded: (a) Likert scale, (b) number of assignments completed, and (c) percentage of homework completed. Timing of when did alcatraz shut, homework rating Two categories of timing were coded: (a) retroactive ratings of homework compliance (e.g., a single rating at the end of negative rights, treatment), and (b) contemporaneous ratings of homework compliance (e.g., assessment of homework at each therapy session). Year of The Preparatory-Response Model by Ivan Pavlov Essay, study In this analysis, we used weighted regression to negative vs positive, determine if the linear variable year of publication moderated the effect size of homework on outcome.

Effect size r was used to characterize the relationship between homework compliance and therapy outcome for each of the 20 studies. For studies that did not report correlation coefficients ( r ), available study statistics were converted to r according to standard formulas (Hunter and Schmidt 1990 ). As mentioned above, effect sizes were determined by two independent reviewers and for the majority of studies agreement was reached. In three cases, discrepancies were determined by discussion between the two reviewers and a third reviewer. For those studies where available statistics were not readily converted to Upheaval, r , we used the standardized regression coefficient ( ? ; n = 7) or semi-partial correlation coefficient ( n = 3) as a proxy for negative rights r (Peterson and Brown 2005 ). Once study-level correlation coefficients were calculated they were weighted, aggregated, and their heterogeneity was assessed with the Q statistic (Hedges and Olkin 1985 ) using a random effects model. Yovel and Safren ( 2007 ) CBT + continued psychopharm. Our second moderator analysis examined the source of wal mart stakeholders, homework ratings (e.g., therapist, client). Results of rights, this analysis indicated a significant moderating effect of homework source ( Q = 13.83, df = 3, P = .003).

Studies that utilized combined client and therapist ratings had a significantly larger mean effect size than those that utilized objective ratings ( P .001). No significant differences were observed between the other sources of when did alcatraz, homework ratings. Our third moderator analysis was for the type of homework compliance rating (e.g., Likert scale). Results of this analysis indicated that type of negative rights, homework rating significantly moderated the relationship between homework compliance and therapy outcome ( Q = 9.51, df = 2, P = .009). Post-hoc analyses indicated that studies utilizing Likert ratings of stakeholders, homework compliance had a significantly higher mean effect size compared to studies using a percentage rating (i.e., percentage of homeworks completed) of homework compliance ( P = .002). No significant differences were observed between Likert and total number of homeworks completed or between total number completed and negative rights percent completed (P -values .05). Our fourth analysis was for timing of jung theory, homework compliance (e.g., retroactive vs. contemporaneous).

Results of this moderator analysis indicated that retroactive ratings of homework compliance (e.g., a single rating of compliance provided at the end of negative vs positive rights, treatment) demonstrated a significantly higher effect size than contemporaneous ratings (e.g., ratings made after each therapy session; Q = 11.90, df = 1, P .001). Specifically, the mean correlation between homework compliance and outcome was .36 for retroactive ratings and .19 for contemporaneous ratings. A final analysis examined the moderating effect of publication year. Results of when down, this analysis indicated that year of publication did not moderate the effect of rights, homework on treatment outcome ( P = .264). This meta-analysis examined the The Preparatory-Response Model Essay relationship between homework compliance and treatment outcome across 23 studies and over negative vs positive rights, 2,000 participants. The Peloponnesian In! Similar to results found by rights Kazantzis et al. ( 2000 ), greater homework compliance was associated with improved treatment outcome ( r = .27). These results were consistent across a variety of target symptoms including symptoms of anxiety ( r = .22), depression ( r = .24), and substance use ( r = .27), suggesting that compliance with homework is an important component of when shut down, psychotherapy regardless of the rights target symptoms.

Indeed, this finding is consistent with cognitive and behavioral theories, which suggest that mastery of skills learned in stakeholders, therapy via practice of such skills is important for producing positive treatment outcomes (i.e., improving symptoms). In the present study, the two most common sources of homework ratings were therapists and objective ratings (e.g., counting the number or percentage of rights, homework turned in), and we found that the source of amaterasu human, homework ratings moderated the relationship between homework compliance and treatment outcome. Specifically, when both clients and vs positive their therapists provided homework ratings, effect sizes were significantly higher ( r = .35) than when objective ratings were used ( r = .16). However, because only two studies utilized both client and therapist ratings, these results should be interpreted with caution. Indeed, the two studies that utilized therapist and the peloponnesian patient ratings of compliance used quite different methods for assessing homework compliance and had quite different sample sizes.

Moreover, our analysis averaged the therapist and patient rating of homework compliance, despite the fact that these ratings may not always be strongly correlated. Negative Vs Positive! Indeed, the when did alcatraz study by vs positive Westra and Dozois ( 2006 ) reported only a modest correlation between therapist and client compliance ratings. Again, given the war resulted in small number of studies utilizing this method and the limitations mentioned here, readers should take caution about interpreting these findings as particularly meaningful. These findings might be interpreted in a number of different ways. First, they may suggest that future studies of this relationship should utilize both types of ratings, at least on the assumption that this effect size discrepancy is negative rights, real. Amaterasu Human! Alternatively, this discrepancy in findings might highlight the inherent limitations of using subjective ratings as a means of assessing homework compliance. Negative Vs Positive Rights! For example, therapists who provide homework ratings may give better scores to those who are doing better in amaterasu human, therapy (i.e., hes doing better, so he must be doing his homework). There were no significant differences between groups when comparing other sources of homework ratings.

However, although objective ratings did not differ from client alone or therapist alone ratings, it is interesting to note that our findings differ from those of Kazantzis et al. Rights! ( 2000 ), who found that objective ratings had a higher overall correlation with treatment outcome. This may be due to the difference in Essay on, defining objective assessment between the negative vs positive rights two meta-analyses. The Preparatory-Response By Ivan Essay! Specifically, whereas Kazantzis defined objective as an electronic marker of homework compliance, our analysis considered objective to mean studies that counted the number of homeworks turned into therapists. Studies that used Likert scales to rate homework compliance had a significantly higher mean effect size ( r = .31) than those rating the percentage of rights, homeworks completed ( r = .17). Further, studies using Likert scales were higher, but not significantly so, than studies using the number of homeworks completed. While this finding is difficult to explain, it may be due to the fact that Likert ratings might inadvertently reflect quality and quantity ratings, whereas a summary variable such as percent or total homeworks completed reflect quantity only.

For example, during the course of therapy, clients may be asked to wal mart stakeholders, regularly (e.g., once each day) practice homework. Negative Rights! However, they may present at the next therapy session and describe one excellent (and extremely beneficial) example of how he/she practiced homework over the past week. Therapists who rated client homework from 0 (poor) to 6 (outstanding) might rate this compliance relatively high on the scale. In contrast, clients who report doing homework every day but who had difficulty with the jung theory assignment or who described it as unhelpful might be rated relatively lower in terms of compliance. Vs Positive Rights! Further, Likert scales provide the therapist and the client with a range to shut, rank homework completion. This can be opposed to percentage of homeworks completed and negative vs positive rights number of when shut down, homeworks completed, which are often scored on a dichotomous (completed or did not complete) scale. If a client completes part of a homework assignment, the negative vs positive client is Upheaval, given some credit for compliance, even if the negative vs positive rights effort is minimal. Further, a timing effect was found for contemporaneous versus retrospective ratings of homework completion in that retrospective ratings were a significantly better predictor of outcome than contemporaneous ratings. This may have been due to a bias effect for retroactive ratings. For example, it is possible that patients who have appeared to have done well in therapy could have been rated by their therapist or themselves as more compliant with homework assignments.

These results may provide insight into Essay, differences in objective versus subjective ratings (i.e., higher effect size for subjective ratings than objective assessments), in that objective ratings are most typically contemporaneous by nature (e.g., paperwork that was turned into and/or discussed with the therapist), and therefore appear more reliable in assessing compliance than retroactive or subjective ratings of compliance. These issues (objective vs. subjective; Likert vs. non-Likert) highlight the important issue of how we define homework compliance. Negative Vs Positive Rights! Specifically, they highlight the important issue of the purpose of conducting a homework analyses, which is to Pavlov, discover the true nature of the relationship between homework compliance and treatment outcome, not findings ways of manipulating methods to demonstrate larger effects. Negative! Determining the true effect indeed involves finding increasingly objective, or bias-free methods of assessing homework compliance. To this end, Kazantzis et al. ( 2004 ) has described novel methods of assessing homework in therapy research (e.g., the Homework Rating Scale), which include the assessment of homework quality. However, there has yet to The Great, be any consistent use of these methods. We strongly recommend new research incorporate these new methods of rights, assessing homework compliance, as well as develop more objective and the peloponnesian war resulted in accurate means of assessing homework quantity and quality in negative vs positive, treatment research and jung theory outcome. There are several limitations to the current review. As previously mentioned, there have been problems with the objective assessment of rights, homework compliance. Additionally, the current review did not examine demographic moderators (i.e., age, gender, ethnicity, education) or the The Preparatory-Response Model severity of psychopathology (e.g., Major Depressive Disorder vs. Dysthymia; Substance Abuse vs.

Substance Dependence) that could contribute to vs positive, homework compliance. These variables were not included in the current studys moderator analysis as they were not examined in when did alcatraz shut down, the results of the studies reviewed. Research has found that clients comply less with homework directives if they have greater and/or more long-lasting symptomology (Worthington 1986 ). In addition to demographic moderators and negative vs positive severity of Model by Ivan Pavlov Essay, psychopathology, other things to keep in mind when considering the relationship between a clients homework compliance and therapeutic gain are pharmacotherapy (e.g., is the client on antidepressant medications?), if the client is involved in another form of negative rights, treatment (e.g., social skills training), and use of coping mechanisms for when did alcatraz down dealing with stress (e.g., does the client take action in response to stress or become less productive? Addis and Jacobson 2000 ). The results, however, demonstrate a more generalized view of the effects of negative rights, homework compliance on wal mart, therapy outcome across a span of negative vs positive, different psychological diagnoses and diverse demographic characteristics. A further limitation of the current review is that it did not take into account the client-therapist relationship. Research has found that a positive and trusting client-therapist relationship may aid recovery in mental illness (Green et al.

2008 ) regardless of homework. Additionally, the Model by Ivan Pavlov strength of the relationship between the client and the therapist could contribute to homework compliance, with a stronger working relationship leading to increased homework compliance. Without looking at the client-therapist relationship as a moderator between homework compliance and treatment outcome, there is a possibility that the relationship alone contributed to the improvements seen in negative vs positive rights, the clients. However, as mentioned by Model Essay Kazantzis et al. ( 2000 ), there exists an abundance of research that demonstrates the positive effects of the use of homework in therapy on treatment outcome. Finally, the negative rights current review did not examine the clients attitude towards homework.

A negative attitude towards homework, even if the homework is completed, could potentially limit the likelihood that the client will continue to practice the skills learned once therapy is completed. Motivation, lack of on Upheaval, effort, and readiness to change are other variables that were not explored in the current study, which are factors that have been found to be correlated with homework compliance (Neimeyer et al. 2008 ; Yovel and Safren 2007 ). Addis and Jacobson ( 2000 ) examined the relationship between clients acceptance of the treatment rationale and the degree to which clients completed homework, and concluded that the ability to negative, provide a convincing treatment rationale may be one of the crucial skills which determines the success of CBT in the peloponnesian, real-world clinical settings. Further studies would benefit from exploring these areas in rights, regard to when did alcatraz, homework compliance. In sum, the results of this meta-analysis suggest that on the whole, greater compliance with homework is related to improved treatment outcome, and this relationship is negative vs positive rights, robust across a variety of treatment targets (e.g., depression, anxiety, and substance use). Wal Mart Stakeholders! However, this study also highlights discrepancies in effect sizes surrounding the vs positive rights method of the peloponnesian war resulted, assessing homework compliance (e.g., objective vs. subjective). Specifically, higher effect sizes were found when therapists and clients both evaluate homework compliance.

On one hand, clinicians may desire making homework compliance a collaborative part of vs positive, treatment (e.g., to the peloponnesian in, structure therapy whereby review of vs positive rights, homework is an The Preparatory-Response Pavlov Essay integral part of sessions). On the other hand, these discrepancies may highlight the inherent limitations in using subjective assessments of homework compliance. Negative! To this regard, it may be increasingly important for more standardized and objective methods of assessing homework compliance that are less prone to bias and that capture the true nature of the relationship between homework compliance and when down treatment outcome. In this vein, suggestions on incorporating homework into therapy and vs positive rights improving compliance are available in jung theory, the literature (Beck 1995 ; Tompkins 2004 ), as are forms for measuring multiple aspects of homework compliance (Kazantzis et al. Negative Vs Positive Rights! 2004 ). Getting some perspective on your situation can make all the difference, says life coach and author Cheryl Richardson . As painful and as deeply difficult as divorce can be, if approached in a conscious way, it can also be an The Preparatory-Response Model by Ivan Pavlov Essay, extraordinary way for someone to change the negative rights, course of their life, she says. Whenever we're going through an emotionally difficult time, one of the first things to wal mart stakeholders go out the window is perspective -- particularly with divorce. It's so easy to get caught up in the emotional drama, to make up stories in our heads about what the other person thinks or what they're doing to us, rather than stay focused on the reality of the situation. Gaining a higher perspective can turn this tendency around. Things may be lousy right now, but you can also recognize that in the future, you can use this experience to your advantage.

On a practical level, gaining perspective also helps to circumvent the emotional battering that goes on between two people that hurts both the people involved and their children. Rights. I believe each person who comes into our life, whether for a brief moment or for years and years, does so for a reason. If you ask yourself some very specific questions, you will begin to experience your divorce through the lens of negative rights grace. The Peloponnesian War Resulted. Ask yourself: If this person were sent to teach me something, what would he or she be teaching me? By asking yourself that question (or maybe having a friend do so, to give you a more objective perspective), you will have an opportunity to identify lessons, life skills, or qualities of negative vs positive rights character that need to be developed as a result of jung theory your interaction with this person. Looking at it from negative rights, both sides is also really helpful. Let's imagine that you made an agreement with this person before either of you were even born to when shut down support each other's development. How are you being challenged to grow? This exercise also puts you in vs positive the other person's shoes, which is always a great place to the peloponnesian in be when you're negotiating -- and you're always negotiating when you re going through divorce, whether it seems like it or not. For example, let's say every time you set a boundary with your ex about when he can come to the house or how he can speak to you, he breaks it.

Maybe the lesson he's here to teach you is how to stand up for yourself, how to set realistic boundaries and how to negative vs positive back up those boundaries with action. At the same time, you may be teaching him an important lesson about respecting other people's space, time, and energy. In doing so, you're setting him (and yourself) up to have better relationships in the future. Another question might be: What life skill is this situation challenging me to develop? Divorce can provide many such life skills, for example, learning to follow something through from beginning to end; not letting your emotional state prevent you from taking actions that are important to jung theory your self-care and the care of your family; and rights patience. Theres one myth that nearly everyone was influenced to believe about dealing with loss one that probably cripples us more than all other wrong ideas. The myth is jung theory, that time heals all wounds. It is wonderful poetry, but its realistically absurd. Rights. Time cant heal an emotional wound any more than air could jump back into a flat tire. The energy for wal mart stakeholders, living life can seem non-existent, and negative vs positive if you try to do anything while your heart is flat, its like riding around on the rims of your heart. Two myths are encapsulated in a phrase we all heard when we were teens, after our first break-up, and that we still hear now as we flounder in the aftermath of negative our divorce: Dont Feel Bad There Are Plenty Of Fish In The Sea. For many of us, that line is the when did alcatraz down, first notification we had that wed been dating or married to a fish.

Yes, we know, its a funny line, but the dual message is negative vs positive, crippling. First we are told not to feel bad, which is to suggest that theres something wrong with us if we feel sad or bad as the result of the end of the hopes and dreams we had for the future. Jung Theory. And equally inane is that the plenty of fish line tells us to negative vs positive just go out and find another love or Replace the Loss. And were supposed to do that without ever dealing with the wal mart stakeholders, loss of dreams and the loss of trust and safety caused by the just-ended relationship. Its a recipe for disaster. Johns relationship advice is always wonderfully practical, regardless of whether youre from Mars or Venus. In this essay, he offers some great tools to help you heal from your divorce, both intellectually and emotionally. As I was going through my own divorce 25 years ago, I thought it was the negative, worst thing that had ever happened to me. It was painful, it was difficult, and I got through it. I became a much better person. In fact, it was the best thing that ever happened to Model by Ivan Pavlov me. I was able to find the right person for me with whom to have a long-lasting loving relationship. When youre able to face your feelings and challenge them again and negative again, they eventually heal, just like a wound will heal. Im good friends with my ex-wife today. Wal Mart Stakeholders. I dont feel pain about negative vs positive rights it; I feel love in my heart for war resulted, her, and I wish her well.

But Im grateful that the relationship ended and I moved on. Vs Positive Rights. The key to it is: good endings make good beginnings. I developed a series of processes which I write about in my book Mars and Venus Starting Over which assist people in honestly facing their feelings. There are two types of healing: one is when, intellectual, and negative rights one is emotional. The emotions will not heal until you have intellectually healed, until youve recognized that the ending of this relationship is a good thing for you. On The Great Upheaval. It just cannot be a good thing for you to be in love with a person who is not in love with you. For the person whos leaving, theres often guilt, and vs positive rights thats not a good ending, either. You have to recognize that being with your spouse -- but not being the right one for them -- is keeping them from finding that right person. These points make sense, but you have to mull them over, again and in again and again and continue to explore them. You have to recognize that even though you love this person, you recognize that theyre not right for you; therefore its best for the relationship to end.

You may still love this person, you may still feel hurt, and you may still feel really badly that this happened this may not be what you wanted to have happen but it has happened. Its the oldest saying in vs positive the world, but when one door closes, another door opens. But the door is not closed as long as youre mad at The Preparatory-Response Pavlov Essay, the other person or feeling hurt about the ending. You need to be able to let go of negative that person with good feelings, but the good feelings dont come until you first intellectually recognize that you cant be mad at someone for making something good happen. By Ivan Pavlov Essay. This is negative, a gradual process. The Peloponnesian. The first thing is intellectually releasing the guilt and realizing if youre not right for them, theyre not right for negative vs positive, you, and the peloponnesian vice versa then the negative, emotional healing starts to occur. Jung Theory. It occurs when you take the time to negative vs positive rights explore your feelings and Upheaval be patient with them. Most people want to rush once their mind says, Its over. They want to move on, so they move on in their mind, thinking, Well, that person ruined my life, but Ill just move on. But you cant heal the emotions until you first recognize from the minds point of view something good has happened. Thats what a good ending will do it will teach you how to love yourself and love others -- how to forgive yourself and negative vs positive rights them for failing.

You both started out with high intentions, but you failed. Essay The Great Upheaval. Its still a good thing, but you failed. Before you move on and enter another relationship, you have to be in vs positive a place where youve intellectually forgiven someone. Its much, much easier than emotionally forgiving someone because there is war resulted in, what I call in vs positive Mars and Venus: Starting Over emotional lag-time. Theres a delayed reaction. It takes a while for amaterasu human, the emotions to vs positive resolve because only a small part is about the Model by Ivan Essay, divorce; a bigger part is rights, about all the jung theory, other times in negative rights yourself when you felt powerless, alone, betrayed. When a big event like divorce comes up, these old wounds will tend to come up and want to in be addressed the mind is dealing with just that one situation but the emotions are dealing with an accumulation of feelings all through your life of being rejected or feeling like a failure. But when those feelings come up and see the negative rights, light of day, theyre quickly released and resolved. Amaterasu Human. Its simply a matter of facing them.

Be patient with these processes. Negative Rights. If it takes you a month to get through the intellectual resolution, its likely going to take three or four times that long to emotionally to jung theory work through it -- and maybe a bit longer to completely finalize it. But its just like healing a broken bone: if you heal correctly, you heal stronger. If you get support as you go through this process, you will come out of it stronger, healthier, and happier and have better relationships than you could ever imagine. There are many ways to heal an negative vs positive, emotional wound. Jung Theory. One of the simplest is think about your partner and vs positive rights write them a feeling letter. There are five levels to this task. Level one: Write out your anger, your resentment, your frustration about the divorce.

Level two: Write out what makes you sad, your disappointments, and when your feelings of hurt. Level three: Write out your feelings of worry and negative vs positive rights fear, your concerns about your life now. When you explore these first three levels, a release starts to take place, and you begin to The Great Upheaval feel a deep sense of regret. Vs Positive Rights. Level four: Express those feelings of guilt, shame, and in regret. Level five: Express your positive feelings, trust, gratitude, what it is you wish for or desire. Work through your negative emotions to get to your positive emotions and try to negative rights go through this process every time youre feeling not in a good mood or when old feelings arise. Write another letter each time, or if youre too busy, reread what youve previously written. Its like peeling the Essay The Great Upheaval, layers of an onion: there will be a wave of negative feelings, then a wave of good feelings. If at any time, when youre writing your letter, you have memories of other unresolved relationships, write that letter as well.

This way you begin becoming aware of the levels of feeling. This is so healing because if you see the complete truth of how you feel, the negativity will automatically turn into positivity. What Ive found in my 30 years of counseling is if someone is hurt and negative not moving through it, one of those other four feelings is stakeholders, not being felt. Part of healing the heart is facing the pain, and part of negative vs positive rights it is also taking time to feel good. Every time you do something that makes you feel good, youre helping to heal the Model by Ivan Essay, heart, so whatever you can do to feel good, do it. How will we know when were ready to negative rights close that door and move on? When you can think of your partner and remember the love you shared without feeling pain in your heart when you can be grateful for the loved you shared youll be ready. Relationship expert Dr. Shut. PHIL 338A: Study Questions on Negative and Positive

Jean Jacques Rousseau Essay Sample. Jean Jacques Rousseau, a famous Enlightenment philosopher, one said, We pity in others only the those evils which we ourselves have experienced. We as humans inevitably feel empathy towards people who have realistic fears and realistic hopes. We can understand the pain they feel because we have gone through it too. In the negative riveting novella, Of Mice and Men? John Steinbeck creates extremely realistic characters who reflect people we see in our everyday world. The characters have the same fears and jung theory, suffer the same pains, and thus, we can sympathize with them. The two main characters, George and Lennie, live during the Great Depression and wander around looking for negative rights, ranch work, but when they finally find a ranch, they meet many different kinds of people. These various characters all have their own quirks, but the amount of empathy they receive from the reader varies based on the actions they take. Curleys insecurities achieve no empathy from the when shut reader. Candys fear achieves immense amounts of negative rights empathy.

And lastly, Georges actions and motivations lead to a very unexpected twist. Throughout the novel, George, Candy, and Curley each have insecurities, motivations, and dreams, and while they may share certain human frailties, they are not all equally successful at achieving empathy and support from the reader. Curleys dreams are powered by his inner motivation of insecurity; however, he is extremely unsuccessful in attaining the jung theory readers empathy. Curley is a boxer who is more diminutive in stature than most men. Because of this, he is not content with his size. Thus, he picks on people bigger than himself to prove his strength, Curleys pretty handyCurleys like a lot of little guys. Vs Positive! He hates big guys. Hes alla time picking scraps with big guys.

Kind of The Preparatory-Response Model by Ivan Pavlov Essay like hes mad at em because he aint a big guy' (26). He dreams of being able to vs positive rights, assert his authority and superiority and thus assuage his insecurity, and because of this, he feels the need to over establish his strength and superiority in order to gain respect. Stakeholders! Of course, the type of respect he gains from people is vs positive, not admirable because he obtains it via cruelty. Jung Theory! His cruelty is not surprising since Curleys name is already a connotation for vs positive rights, evil. Curley is similar to the word cruel, but slightly rearranged. Amaterasu Human! And cruel he is, as Curley shows no mercy to anyone, even the negative vs positive developmentally delayed, Curley was balanced and the peloponnesian in, poised. Rights! He slashed Lennie with his left, and then smashed down his nose with a right. Lennie gave a cry of terror. Blood welled from his nose (63).

In this quote, Curley catches Lennie laughing at something. Being the self-centered bully he is, Curley accuses Lennie of laughing at him. Lennie of course, is in his own world and is completely oblivious to what is happening. Curley takes this oblivious, childlike state of mind and wal mart stakeholders, attempts to crush it. Rights! He considers Lennie is helpless because he is the peloponnesian war resulted in, a nice guy, and so Curley only vs positive rights, beats on him harder. Beating up a man twice his size helps Curley boost his low self-confidence. However, when Curley does this, he attains no respect or sympathy from the reader. In fact, he solicits our hatred by wal mart stakeholders, his actions. The reader only hopes that something bad will happen to him. Steinbeck caters to the readers want immediately after Curley attempts to beat up Lennie as Lennie strikes back, Looks to me like ever bone in his han is bustThis punk sure had it comin to him (64). Lennie does not just stand there and allow Curley to beat him up.

After awhile, Lennie, who is far larger and stronger than Curley, retaliates. Vs Positive! In a mere matter of seconds, Lennie destroys Curley. Because of jung theory Curleys foolish actions, he ends up hurting himself. And when this occurs, the reader is happy because Curley had it coming; It was evitable that something nasty had to happen to Curley as he deserved to be beaten up. However, if we juxtapose Curley with other characters, such as Lennie and Candy, the animosity felt for Curley is even greater in light of the gentleness and kindness of old Candy and of Lennie, emphasizing that people like Candy deserve protection from people like Curley, and negative, such protection is offered by individuals like George. Wal Mart! Thus, while Candy may be insecure like Curley, the reader is able to feel differently about Curley because of his cruelty, and in contrast, the reader hopes that Candy and Lennie will be protected by people like George. Unlike Candy, the vs positive reader hopes for the demise of people like Curley, who project their insecurities in a demanding and frightening manner.

Therefore, one can conclude that insecurities may lead an shut down, individual down the wrong path, the path towards misery and vs positive rights, lack of respect. Candys realistic fears of failure fuel his dreams; however, although he fears failure, his insecurities actually make him extremely successful and receiving empathy from the reader. Candy is the oldest character in the peloponnesian in, Of Mice and Men. He is immensely kind to everyone and never tries to gain respect through fear. Not only is negative vs positive rights, he old, he is handicapped as he is missing one of his hands.

With this in jung theory, mind, he realizes that it is very hard to secure himself a stable job when he is already old and handicapped, I aint much good with ony one hand. I lost my hand right here on vs positive, this ranch. Spose I went in with you guys. Essay The Great! Theyll can me purty soon. Rights! Jus as soon as I cant swamp out no bunk houses theyll put me on the country' (59-60). This realistic fear of the future is justifiable as Candy is just another man who needs to figure out how to make his living during the Great Depression. Once Candy hears about amaterasu human George and Lennies ranch dream, he is instantly hopeful for the future, as he thinks that he will succeed.

Because of Candys old age and kindness, the reader cannot help but feel empathy for Candy because his fear is understandable and is one that everyone in the world encounters. When George and Lennie promise Candy a share of the negative vs positive rights land, Candy perks up immediately, Candy cried, Sure they all want it. Everybody wants a little bit of land, not muchI never had noneBut we gonna do it now, and wal mart stakeholders, dont make no mistake about thatHe stopped, overwhelmed with his picture (76). Steinbeck cleverly allows the reader to vs positive rights, feel that Candy is close to the dream. He has the money, and Essay Upheaval, he has people who are willing to help him. At this point, Candys fears have been temporarily assuaged. Naturally at negative vs positive rights, this point, the reader cannot help but feel hopeful for Candy as he is so close to success. Of course, Steinbeck once again pulls a hand at Candys fate when he shatters Candys one hope, He looked helplessly back at jung theory, Curleys wife, and gradually his sorrow and vs positive rights, his anger grew into words You wasnt no goodI could of hoed in the garden and washed dishes for them guysHis eyes blinded with tears and he turned and went weakly out of the barn (95-96). Stakeholders! After Curleys wifes death, the dream has been shattered; There is no doubt that George and negative, Lennie will leave Candy and Candy will once again be stuck as the lonely man on the ranch.

The reader feels sad for by Ivan Essay, Candy as this point because Candy is vs positive, much more deserving of achieving his dream than people like Curley. Candy lives by the virtues of kindness and gentleness; Curley does not even have virtues. This solicits a deep compassion from the when down reader for Candy. Although Candys ultimate dream ends in failure, he is very successful in gaining empathy. George is motivated by the realistic want of leading a good life; however, he is an ambiguous character, and the reader cannot help but feel mixed feelings for him. George and Lennie travel together in hopes of finding a ranch of their own. Unfortunately, Lennie is developmentally delayed and acts as a hindrance to vs positive rights, George in many ways, If I was alone I could live so easy.

I could go get a job an work, an The Preparatory-Response Pavlov Essay, no trouble. No mess at all, and when the negative vs positive end of the month come I could take my fifty bucks and shut, go into town and get whatever I wantYou keep me in negative rights, hot water all the time (11). Lennie gets George into when shut down, all sorts of unnecessary trouble, which only makes George seem more valiant as a character since he takes pity on those who are less fortunate than him. Although George appears to vs positive rights, be a good character, the reader cannot help but question Georges inner thoughts that he could lead a better life without Lennie. While George is the protector of people like Lennie and Candy, we are confused by Georges statement of frustration. On one hand, we want him to protect the unfortunate, but on another hand, our empathy for him is mixed as we wonder if he will actually succeed as the protector. As the story progresses, George meets Candy and shares the ranch dream with him. With Candys money, and George and Essay on Upheaval, Lennies hope, the dream seems almost achievable, Jesus Christ! I bet we could swing her.

His eyes were full of wonder (60). By making the ranch pact with Candy, we are hopeful that George will obtain the ranch so he can ensure the safety of people like Lennie and Candy against evil people like Curley. Steinbeck builds up tension here, as the reader ponders whether or not they will actually obtain the ranch. However the most dastardly act of the book shocks readers the vs positive rights most, George raised the The Great Upheaval gun and his hand shookhe brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennies head. He pulled the triggerLennie jarred, and then settled slowly forward to the sand, and he lay without quivering (105-106). As Lennie lays dead on the ground, George fails us here. We do not feel anything other than shock and confusion for George. We do not empathize with him, and we fear that he does not empathize with others. Georges entire image changes as the reader ponders who George really is. Is he evil like Curley or kind like Candy?

Although we are unsure, we think that he may be both. Vs Positive! He may have killed his best friend out of selfishness, or he may have killed his best friend in the hopes of preventing in from future pain. Either way, we realize that he is not the wal mart stakeholders man we perceived him to be. George is unsuccessful in attaining his ranch, but the amount of empathy the rights reader feels for him is on, mixed, as George is no longer the empathetic man we perceived him to be at negative vs positive rights, the beginning of the novella. Throughout the jung theory novel, Curley, Candy, and George all have different motivations and dreams, but although they share certain human fragilities, the amount of empathy they gain from the reader is extremely different. Curley gains no empathy from the vs positive reader because his insecurities hurt others. Candys insecurities gain him the most empathy because he is kind, but still must suffer.

Lastly, Georges motivation brings only utter confusion to the reader because although he seems like a helpful man in the beginning, his actions do not reflect the man we thought he was. Steinbeck attempts to show us that people do not give out empathy equally, but they dole it out shut down, based on peoples actions and whether they are deserving of that empathy. We value people like Candy who can endure terrible things and still be kind. However, we dislike people like Curley who are nasty and rude. With this in mind, we should understand that if we wish to achieve empathy from people in our world, we need to make the right choices. Negative Vs Positive! We cannot expect to when down, receive empathy if we choose to treat the vs positive rights people around us terribly; if we treat others with respect and when shut, handle things in vs positive, a calm manner, we will receive empathy.

Even if it does not come immediately, it will come in due time. Empathy is jung theory, certainly important; it helps us understand the negative rights other people in our world better. Upheaval! By understanding the pain that others endure through, we can sympathize and negative vs positive, help others go through rough times. Thus, we can make the world a better place. Steinbeck, John.
